MARBURN ACADEMY LAUNCHES SECONDARY LOCATION TO SUPPORT MORE CENTRAL OHIO STUDENTS
– New site, named Marburn Education Collaborative, to address pandemic-related learning loss –
Columbus, OH, February 15, 2022 – Marburn Academy (Marburn), an independent day school devoted to serving the needs of bright students who learn differently, is reinforcing its commitment to central Ohio families and is launching a new pilot program to reach more students in need of support.
Through the generosity of donors, the New Albany-based independent school recently secured a space located at 1650 Watermark Dr. Suite 120. The building space is currently being readied and will house free and reduced-fee educational services to central Ohio students with learning needs due to dyslexia, executive function difficulties and attention challenges.
The innovative pilot program will officially begin serving students this week with limited availability. The program is tailored to the needs of the community and will increase access to Marburn’s exceptional educational support services for the central Ohio community.
“In our 40 years, Marburn has always been committed to serving the Columbus community and this pilot is an exciting outgrowth of that commitment” said Stephanie Royal, director of outreach for Marburn Academy. “Parents see first-hand the learning challenges their children face during the pandemic and many continue to struggle. It is more important than ever that we reach these young people and help address their unique educational needs, increase their confidence and put them on the path to success.”
The Marburn Education Collaborative will run the branch location, which will offer outreach services including free early-reading screenings, free educational seminars for parents and educators, as well as reduced-fee tutoring services (individual and group). Financial aid is available.
During the two-year pilot initiative, Marburn will evaluate the program and determine what an appropriate and sustainable expansion of services looks like long-term. Demand from the
community will help to inform the need for additional resources.
“Marburn Academy offers a truly transformative educational experience that employs innovative, research-driven and effective teaching techniques to best support students who learn differently,” said Eldrich Carr, the head of school for Marburn Academy. “It is our passion and our responsibility to make sure every student, at our New Albany campus and beyond, has access to these valuable educational resources.
The school also is engaging the next generation of special education teachers through the program, offering hands-on internship opportunities for students attending The Ohio State University’s Special Education program. The Marburn Education Collaborative also was selected as a host site for the 2022 Summer Fellowship Program of The Columbus Foundation.
“The Columbus Foundation is proud to support Marburn’s long-standing commitment and dedication to delivering innovative, high-quality programming to bright students who learn differently,” said Dan Sharpe, vice president of community research and grants management at The Columbus Foundation. “The Marburn Education Collaborative pilot program is an aspect of the educational continuum, and inclusivity, that our community needs. The Foundation, Supporting Foundations, and our donors appreciate the opportunity to co-invest in these important programs that help strengthen our community.”
The pilot initiative is made possible by philanthropic donations and in-kind services. Early leadership support comes from The Columbus Foundation, The Daimler Group, Discover Financial Services, Harry C. Moores Foundation, Moritz Family Foundation, The Reinberger Foundation, Safelite AutoGlass, ScottsMiracle-Gro and Siemer Family Foundation.
Marburn looks forward to hosting a community open house at the new location in August as families prepare for the 2022-2023 school year. For more information on Marburn Academy, visit marburnacademy.org.
