Dr. Bren Sutter is the Assistant Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Capital University Law School. In her capacity as Assistant Dean, she works to ensure that all students, staff, and faculty feel a sense of value and belonging.
From 2016 to 2021, Dr. Sutter worked for Rutgers’ Scarlet and Black Project, a research initiative that sought to uncover the untold story of disadvantaged populations in the university’s history. Her research and writing appear in the book series Scarlet and Black: Slavery and Dispossession in Rutgers History, published by Rutgers University Press. From 2020 to 2021, she was the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Predoctoral Fellow in Women’s History at the New York Historical Society, where she helped curate the exhibition “Title IX: Activism On and Off the Field.”
Dr. Sutter is a Northern California native. She has a bachelor's in history and sociology from the University of California, San Diego, a master's in history from New York University and a Ph.D. in the history of gender, race, and sexuality from Rutgers University.
