Frequently Asked Questions

My son is gifted intellectually, even though he has trouble with reading and writing. Will he fit in at Marburn?

Absolutely! Marburn only enrolls students with average to superior intelligence. In a typical year, 30 percent of our students qualify as gifted. In addition to the needed skill remediation, Marburn Academy's hands-on curriculum, small class size, and rich program provide gifted students with the challenge and enrichment they deserve in their area of talent.

"I cannot say enough about my appreciation for my son's experience with Marburn Academy. It turned his world of education around. He is now succeeding in his third year at a highly academic private high school and is looking into colleges as well. His two years spent at Marburn were the best investment we ever made."
~Comment from Marburn Academy Parent Survey, 2004

Does Marburn Academy prepare students for college?

Yes. In the past 10 years, 100% of Marburn's graduates have been accepted into accredited two- and four-year colleges and universities. (Nationally, only 13% of LD high school graduates attend a post-secondary school program.)

Will my daughter have to leave her friends behind?

No! We encourage students to maintain current friendships and a strong sense of community. We offer a number of programs designed to help students learn how to make new friends and sustain relationships.

Is financial aid available?

Marburn Academy raises more than $350,000 each year to give direct financial aid to our families. In addition, a tuition loan program allows families to defer a portion of tuition payments until the student transitions or graduates from Marburn Academy; financial aid packages can consist of both direct grants and loans. Also, many families qualify to deduct tuition costs from their federal income taxes.

What about parent involvement?

Parent involvement is not only welcomed, it is expected! At Marburn Academy, each parent is a key member of the Educational Planning Team, and parents are invited to participate in all aspects of the program.

The Marburn Academy Parent Seminars (MAPS) series acquaints new parents about our teaching methods so they can participate fully in the planning process. Attendance at these yearly fall meetings is required of all families.

Other activities that involve parent participation include:

  • Production of the monthly Parent Network Newsletter, "Panther Pride"; click here to read a recent issue

  • Teacher appreciation

  • Campus beautification

  • Chaperoning social functions and outdoor adventure trips

  • Staffing parties and special events

  • Much more!
